Want a chill run or a brutal survival? World Modifiers let you shape Valheim: loot rates, stamina, portals, enemy difficulty—dial it all in. A few clicks on your panel and your server has a new vibe.
Prerequisites
- Access to your Oxygenserv panel (login and password)
- Valheim server installed and listed in your services
- 2–5 minutes of maintenance to restart cleanly
- Recent world backup (always smart before big changes)
Detailed steps
-
Log in and stop the server cleanly
Open the Oxygenserv panel and pick your Valheim service. In the Console tab, click the red ‘Stop’ button. Wait until logs show ‘Server stopped’ and CPU usage drops. Do not proceed until the status says ‘Stopped’. If you hit a timeout, press ‘Stop’ again and wait ~30 seconds. -
Open Valheim startup/options
Go to the ‘Startup’ tab. You’ll see Valheim-specific fields. If your panel exposes ‘Files’ > ‘Config Editor’, open ‘Valheim Server Options’. Locate the preset selector and the list of modifiers (sliders and on/off toggles). -
Select a preset as your baseline
In the ‘Preset’ dropdown, choose a baseline (common examples:Casual,Normal,Hard,Immersive). A preset applies sensible defaults across all settings. It’s faster than toggling everything manually. You can override any setting afterward. If you want a clean slate, pick a standard preset first, then customize. -
Tune modifiers one by one
a) Portals and map: to disable all portals, enable ‘Disable all Portals’. To block boss portals only, enableEnable NoBossPortals. For a no-map experience, enableEnable NoMap(map stays hidden).
b) Death and inventory: choose what to lose on death:Delete Items on Death,Delete Unequipped on Death, andKeep Equipped on Death. Balanced example: enableDelete Unequipped on DeathandKeep Equipped on Deathto punish without hard-frustration.
c) Building and crafting: for builder servers, enableEnable No Build CostandEnable No Crafting Cost. You can also toggleAllow Crafting without WorkbenchandAllow Building in Dungeonsto build anywhere.
d) Enemy difficulty: adjustIncoming Damage Modifier(damage you take) andOutgoing Damage Modifier(your damage). Example: setIncoming Damage Modifier=0.8for some breathing room andEnemy Level-up Rate=1.2to keep fights spicy.
e) Rates and stamina: these are numeric multipliers (use a dot, not a comma). Chill PvE sample:Resource Gain Rate=1.8,Skill Experience Gain Rate=1.2,Stamina Consumption Rate=0.9,Stamina Regeneration Rate=1.1. Type values exactly, e.g.,2.0not2,0. -
Save and restart
Click ‘Save’ (green button). Go back to Console and hit ‘Start’. Watch the logs: you should see ‘Game server connected’ then ‘Server started’. If it fails to boot, it’s often an out-of-range value (e.g., text where a number is expected). Revert to defaults (1.0for multipliers, toggles OFF), save, and retry. -
Verify in-game
Launch Valheim and join your server. Test a couple of key rules: try building without a workbench ifAllow Crafting without Workbenchis on, or step through a portal if portals are disabled. Watch stamina: withStamina Consumption Rate=0.8, sprinting should drain slower. If not, disconnect, restart the server, and recheck values.
Tips & optimization
– Casual co-op (4 players): Resource Gain Rate=1.5, Incoming Damage Modifier=0.9, Skill Experience Gain Rate=1.2, keep portals enabled. Why: smooth progression, less grind, readable fights.
– Hardcore survival: Incoming Damage Modifier=1.5, Damage Dealt by Enemies=1.3, enable Delete Items on Death, disable Keep Equipped on Death. Why: high stakes, tactical choices, tense recoveries.
– Builder server: enable Enable No Build Cost + Enable Passive Mobs, and set Stamina Consumption Rate=0.5. Why: fast prototyping, no aggro, architecture focus.
Reminder: keep most multipliers between 0.5 and 3.0 to avoid extreme imbalance or odd behavior.
FAQ
Do players need to install anything?
No. World Modifiers are native server settings. The server enforces them for every player joining, with no client mods required.
Can I change modifiers mid-playthrough?
Yes, but restart the server to apply cleanly. Some rules (e.g., death behavior) only show their effect when the event happens, so test after the restart.
How do I revert to default?
Select a standard preset (e.g., Normal) and set every multiplier back to 1.0, turn extra toggles OFF. Save and restart.
My changes don’t apply. Why?
Common causes: you didn’t press ‘Save’, you didn’t restart, or you entered an invalid value (e.g., 1,5 instead of 1.5). Check logs for a startup error pointing to the bad field.
You’re now in full control of your Valheim server’s mood. Tweak, test, refine—and give your community the perfect adventure. Have fun!
